Admission statistics, GMAT/GRE, class size, work experience, consulting placements, salaries and return on investment.
For Indian professionals with 3–10 years of work experience, choosing the right MBA can be one of the most important career decisions.
Four programmes frequently appear on their shortlist: ISB's Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), IIM Ahmedabad's PGPX, IIM Bangalore's EPGP and IIM Calcutta's MBAEx.
All four offer an intensive, approximately one-year management education. However, their admission requirements, student profiles, recruiting markets and career outcomes are not identical.
A higher average salary does not automatically mean a better MBA. The real question is which programme offers the strongest career transition for your experience, industry and ambitions.
1. Programme comparison: Seats, experience and entrance exams
Parameter | ISB PGP | IIMA PGPX | IIMB EPGP | IIMC MBAEx |
|---|
Duration | 11 months | 1 year | 1 year | 1 year |
Recent class size | 812, Class of 2026 profile | 160, 2026–27 | 74, 2026 batch | 90, 2025–26 |
Minimum experience | 2 years | 4 years | 5 years | 5 years |
Entrance exam | GMAT/GRE | GMAT/GRE | GMAT/GRE | GMAT |
Average experience | 4 years | 7.5 years | 5 years, reported 2026 | Not consistently verified |
Ideal applicant | Early/mid-career | Experienced professional | Mid-career professional | Experienced professional |
Official programme profiles and admissions information. ISB's 2026 graduation announcement separately reports 808 graduates; its recruiter profile reports 812 students.
The biggest difference is the professional experience of the entering students.
ISB accommodates candidates earlier in their careers, while IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP and IIMC MBAEx are particularly relevant to professionals with established experience who want to move into strategy, consulting, general management or leadership.
2. Placement and salary comparison
Reported career outcomes
ISB PGP · 2026
₹37.29 LPA
Average reported compensation
1,117 job offers
IIMA PGPX · 2026
₹38 lakh
Median maximum earning potential
44 consulting-function offers
IIMB EPGP · 2026
61 offers
Accepted by graduates
22 recruiting companies
IIMC MBAEx · 2023
₹30.90 LPA
Average reported salary
79 offers
Different reporting years and compensation definitions. IIMC's figure is an older verified MBAEx figure, not a 2026 salary. IIMB's 2026 report confirms offers, but a comparable salary statistic was not established from the material reviewed.

+3
A critical point for MBA aspirants: average CTC, fixed salary, median salary and maximum earning potential are not interchangeable. Comparing these without understanding their definitions can lead to misleading conclusions.
3. Consulting careers: Which school offers better opportunities?
ISB has a broad recruitment ecosystem covering consulting, technology, financial services and general management. Its Class of 2026 reported that 67% of students moved to a new industry and 69% changed function, demonstrating substantial career mobility.
Indian School of Business
IIMA PGPX offers a particularly interesting proposition for experienced professionals targeting consulting. Its 2026 outcomes included 44 accepted consulting-function offers, making consulting an important recruitment pathway.
IIMB EPGP combines a smaller cohort with management education and industry recruitment. The 2026 report recorded 61 accepted offers from 22 companies, although that alone does not establish how many graduates entered strategy consulting.
Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
IIMC MBAEx has historically attracted recruiters including Accenture, Infosys Consulting, Genpact, HSBC and Cognizant. Its 2023 report recorded 11 consulting roles, representing 15.5% of reported roles. These are historical outcomes and should not be presented as current consulting placement shares.
For applicants targeting McKinsey, BCG or Bain, school reputation alone is insufficient. The most useful information is programme-specific recruitment, previous consulting experience, seniority of roles offered and the number of fresh hires rather than returning employees.
4. Admission possibilities: Is a high GMAT enough?
Admission factor | ISB PGP | IIMA PGPX | IIMB EPGP | IIMC MBAEx |
|---|
Minimum experience | 2 years | 4 years | 5 years | 5 years |
Minimum age | No stated minimum | 25 years | No stated minimum | No stated minimum |
GMAT/GRE | Both | Both | Both | GMAT |
Published test information | No minimum cutoff | Average GMAT Focus 652, recent cohort | Average GMAT 704, 2025 profile | 50th percentile minimum for 2027–28 |
Interviews | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Career progression | Important | Very important | Very important | Very important |
GMAT Classic and GMAT Focus scores should not be compared numerically without conversion. Average scores describe enrolled students, not admission thresholds.
An applicant with six years of experience, a strong GMAT and significant professional achievements could be competitive at all four programmes. But the quality of experience matters more than simply accumulating years.
A professional who has led teams, managed budgets, delivered measurable business results or successfully handled complex projects may present a stronger application than someone with longer experience but limited evidence of progression.
Importantly, reliable programme-specific acceptance rates are not consistently published across all four institutions. Therefore, claiming that one school has a 10%, 15% or 20% admission probability without verified applicant and offer figures would be misleading.
5. MBA fees and financial return
Programme fees are substantial across all four schools. IIMA's published 2026–27 PGPX fee is ₹35 lakh for single accommodation or ₹37.10 lakh for married-student housing, with international immersion and certain other costs excluded. IIMB's 2025–26 brochure quoted approximately ₹33.71 lakh with campus accommodation, but that is not a verified 2026–27 price.
For a professional already earning ₹20–25 lakh annually, the real MBA investment includes both programme expenses and the income sacrificed during the year away from employment.
This makes post-MBA role quality, compensation growth and long-term career progression particularly important.
6. Which one-year MBA offers the best fit?
Career objective | Programmes to prioritise for evaluation |
|---|
Consulting transition after 2–4 years | ISB PGP |
Consulting or senior strategy roles after 6–10 years | IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP, IIMC MBAEx |
Technology leadership | ISB PGP, IIMB EPGP |
General management | All four |
Career switch with comparatively limited experience | ISB PGP |
Senior leadership and transformation | IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP, IIMC MBAEx |
These are programme-fit recommendations, not guarantees of admission or employment.
BIDYUT Perspective: Choose Your MBA by Career Stage, Not Just Ranking
For someone with three years of professional experience, ISB may offer an attractive combination of classroom peers, career mobility and recruitment opportunities.
For someone with eight years of experience, the more relevant question may be whether IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP or IIMC MBAEx can help accelerate their transition into consulting, strategy or general management.
A higher salary figure, larger class or more famous recruiter list does not automatically translate into better individual outcomes.
Your next career move should determine your MBA selection—not the other way around.
