Indian student exploring MiM in Portugal at Nova SBE with affordable tuition CEMS international exposure and European career opportunities

Lower Cost, Nova SBE & European Career Opportunities

When students think about elite European MiM programmes, France, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands usually come first.

But Portugal-particularly Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE)-deserves closer attention.

The reason is not simply lower tuition. The more interesting question is:

Can Portugal provide a comparatively affordable entry point into a wider European management career?

For the right student, the answer can certainly be worth exploring.

Nova SBE Changes the Portugal Story

Nova SBE's International Master's in Management is highly international. For the 2025/26 intake, the school reported 689 candidates, 69 enrolled students and 93% international students. The programme also requires an international component, which can be completed through an international internship, exchange, double degree or CEMS MiM.

That makes the experience quite different from choosing Portugal simply because it appears to be an affordable European destination.

The Cost Advantage Is Significant

For 2026/27, Nova SBE lists ?13,000 base tuition for non-EU/EEA students on its regular Management track. Adding an exchange semester takes the published total to ?16,249 including the optional ?249 donation, while Management + CEMS is listed at ?21,999 on the same fee table.

Compare that conceptually with premium European MiMs where tuition alone can exceed ?50,000.

However, lower tuition should never be confused with automatically better ROI.

ROI ultimately depends on what happens after graduation.

The Career Story Extends Beyond Portugal

This is where Nova becomes particularly interesting.

Nova's International MiM career page reports 90.3% working within three months and 100% within six months, with 78.8% pursuing an international career. The school lists consulting, consumer goods and technology among popular sectors, and recruiters including Amazon, Accenture, Bain, BCG, Deloitte, EY-Parthenon, PwC and Simon-Kucher. These are school-reported historical outcomes rather than employment guarantees.

More importantly, reported placement destinations include Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and Ireland.

So the strategy should not necessarily be:

India ? Portugal ? Portuguese job market

It can instead be:

India ? Nova SBE ? International Experience ? Internship ? European Recruiters ? Wider European Career

But Portugal Has a Limitation

Portugal should not automatically be treated as equivalent to Germany, France, the Netherlands or the UK in terms of the scale and depth of every employment sector.

That means students need to think internationally from the beginning.

If your target is consulting in Germany, finance in Luxembourg, technology in the Netherlands or another European market, your language skills, internship strategy, networking and work eligibility in the destination market become extremely important.

Portugal itself does provide a post-study route: eligible graduates of second- or third-cycle Portuguese higher education can use a period of up to one year to seek qualifying employment or create a business in Portugal, according to AIMA.

BIDYUT Perspective

Portugal becomes interesting when we stop asking:

"Is Portugal cheaper than France?"

and start asking:

"Can I use Portugal strategically to build a European career?"

For an Indian student considering Nova SBE, I would evaluate:

Total Education Cost ? Nova Brand & Network ? International Exposure ? CEMS/Exchange ? Internship ? Target Country ? Language ? Recruiters ? Employment ? Long-Term ROI

A ?13,000-?22,000 academic pathway that successfully positions a student for an international career may produce a very different financial equation from investing ?50,000-?60,000 in tuition alone.

But the lower-cost programme is valuable only when the student has a clear European career strategy.

Don't choose Portugal simply because it costs less.

Choose Portugal if the programme can become your platform for the career you want to build in Europe.
