Indian student exploring ESSEC MiM Flexible Track with France Singapore internships specialisations and professional experience

When students compare European MiM programmes, ESSEC Business School can initially appear unusual.

Some MiMs are highly accelerated, while the ESSEC Master in Management – Grande École Flexible Track can take 2–3 years.

So, why is it so long?

The answer is simple: ESSEC is not designed around spending 2–3 years continuously in the classroom. It is designed to give students time to build a professional profile alongside the degree.

Flexibility Is the Main Idea

ESSEC offers both an accelerated 1-year Intensive Track and a 2–3 year Flexible Track.

The Flexible Track allows students to combine academic study with specialisations, internships, professional experience and international exposure. Students can customise a significant part of their curriculum and choose from more than 50 specialisations.

A student's journey could therefore look like:

Management Foundation → Internship → Specialisation → International Experience → Professional Experience → Graduation

That is very different from simply attending classes for three years.

Why Can the Extra Time Be Valuable?

ESSEC requires Flexible Track students to complete at least eight months of professional experience.

For a recent graduate with limited work experience, this creates time to explore industries, complete internships, develop specialised knowledge and prepare for recruitment.

It may be particularly useful for someone who is still deciding between areas such as consulting, finance, marketing, technology, luxury or entrepreneurship.

France, Singapore and International Exposure

Students can begin the Flexible Track in France or Singapore, creating another dimension to the programme.

The longer format can therefore be used strategically:

Study → Experience → Explore → Specialise → Network → Recruit

Is a Longer MiM Better?

Not necessarily.

A student who already has strong internships, international exposure and a clear career direction may prefer a shorter, intensive programme.

Another student entering directly after university may benefit from additional time to build professional experience and explore different career paths.

The BIDYUT Perspective

Don't ask:

“Why should I spend three years doing a MiM?”

Ask:

“What can I build during those 2–3 years?”

The potential value of ESSEC's Flexible MiM is not its length. It is what students can strategically do with that time.

Academic Foundation → Specialisation → Internship → International Exposure → Network → Career

A shorter MiM gives you speed.

A flexible MiM gives you time to explore and build.

The right choice depends on where your profile stands before you enter the programme and where you want your career to be when you graduate.

Don't measure a MiM only by how quickly you can finish it. Measure what your profile can become by the time you finish.
