Indian student exploring Vlerick MiM in Brussels with small international cohort strategy consulting and European career opportunities

When students think about Europe's leading MiM programmes, they usually think of France, the UK, Switzerland or Spain.

Belgium is rarely the first country that comes to mind.

Yet Vlerick Business School's Masters in International Management & Strategy (MIMS) is now #6 globally and #5 in Europe in the Financial Times Masters in Management Ranking 2026. It was #14 globally in 2025.

That makes Vlerick particularly interesting.

Small Cohort, Big Career Focus

The current Vlerick MIMS cohort has only 48 students from 18 countries, with backgrounds ranging from business and engineering to law and pharmacy.

Compare that with MiM programmes enrolling several hundred students.

Vlerick therefore offers a different model:

Small Cohort → Personalised Career Support → International Exposure → Employer Access → Career

And career support appears to be one of its major differentiators.

In the FT 2026 ranking, Vlerick's programme was #1 worldwide for career services and alumni network.

What Makes the Programme Different?

The programme is based at Vlerick's Brussels campus and runs from September to June. It is designed for recent graduates seeking international careers in management and strategy.

But the interesting part is what happens beyond the classroom.

Students can gain international exposure through a Global Immersion Tour, exchanges with partner schools such as Bocconi, Nova SBE, Stockholm School of Economics, EDHEC, Frankfurt School and ESMT, and a Global Consultancy Project involving up to two months abroad working on a real business challenge.

So the educational journey becomes:

Management & Strategy → International Exposure → Consulting Project → Career Coaching → Employer Network → Employment

What About Careers?

Vlerick currently reports 96% employed within three months after graduation, while 42% pursue careers in strategy and consulting. It also reports access to more than 100 recruitment partners. These are school-reported historical outcomes and should not be interpreted as employment guarantees for an individual student.

Potential career paths identified by Vlerick include strategy consulting, corporate development, international graduate programmes, private equity and sustainability-related roles.

That helps explain why the programme should be examined particularly carefully by students targeting consulting and strategy.

Is Belgium Really an Advantage?

This is perhaps the most interesting question.

Vlerick's MIMS is based in Brussels, putting students in one of Europe's major international and institutional centres.

But an Indian student should not think:

“I study in Belgium, therefore I must work only in Belgium.”

Vlerick itself positions the programme around international careers and exposes students to employers and markets across Europe.

Belgium also currently provides eligible international graduates an orientation year of up to 12 months after completing their studies to look for employment or establish a business, during which they can work full-time.

Language still deserves serious consideration. Depending on the employer, role and location, French, Dutch, German or another European language can broaden employment possibilities beyond English-only positions.

The BIDYUT Perspective

Vlerick is an excellent example of why students should look beyond famous business-school names when building a MiM shortlist.

Consider what it offers:

48 Students → International Cohort → Strategy Focus → Global Projects → Personalised Career Support → 100+ Recruitment Partners

But its new #6 FT ranking should not become the reason to choose it.

Instead, compare Vlerick with programmes according to the career you want.

St. Gallen → strategy + small selective cohort
Nova SBE → value + international European mobility
WHU → German corporate ecosystem + consulting
Vlerick → strategy + consulting + personalised career support + Brussels/European access
HEC/ESCP → larger global networks + broader specialisation ecosystems

For an Indian student considering Vlerick, my framework would therefore be:

Career Goal → Strategy/Consulting Fit → Brussels → Language → International Exposure → Recruiters → European Employment Market

Don't ask only:

“How did Vlerick become #6 in the world?”

Ask:

“Can Vlerick's small-cohort, career-intensive model give me better access to the career I want?”

That is the more meaningful question.
